Job Title: Business Manager – Fish Farm

Job Summary

  • Our client seeks the services of a qualified Fish Farm Business Manager.
  • The job holder will help to manage a fish farm breeding programme, breeding fish by hatching eggs from adult stock or sometimes by buying in young fish and then rearing them before selling on to purchasers.

Responsibilities

  • The work involves managing and maintaining a fish habitat containing more than seventythousand fishes (70,000 fishes)throughout the year, taking care of stock health and welfare issues and feeding the fishes either manually or using automated machinery and curating market analysis for the business.Responsibilities
  • Calculate the feeding regime using company specified methods
  • Monitor the health of the fish and treat them when appropriate
  • Plan breeding programmes and grow schedules to obtain maximum efficiency
  • Adhere to environmental standards
  • Supervise and oversee the activities of site staff and other support workers at the work station
  • Understand aqua-legislation and how to implement this into practical application
  • Ensure the water supply is of a sufficient quality for the stock
  • Be aware of different water management techniques
  • Adapt to new technologies as they develop and learn practical skills for fish farming
  • Pay close attention to detail, in order to avoid expensive fish losses in what can be a high-risk industry
  • Possess stock skills such as fish handling, spawning, grading,harvesting and preservation
  • Update knowledge of fish health and nutrition
  • Maintain optimum records of stocks
  • Sell fish products that aresuitable forassisting the general public
  • Manage the company’scataloguefor marketing and selling the fishes

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture with focus in Aquaculture
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience managing a large scale fish farm with at least 35,000 – 50,000 fishes annually
  • Minimum of 5 years in managerial capacity as a fish farmer
  • Residents of Gwagwalada and its environs are at advantage
  • Candiate must be ready and willing to work full-time onsite

Requirements & Skills:

  • Hold a full driving licence that is up to date (Added advantage)
  • Knowledge managing large farms with at least thirty fivethousand(35,000) fishes (This will be verified at a later stage of the recruitment)
  • High levelof physical fitness is required
  • Good people and resource management skills
  • Business and social skills
  • Able to deal with customers regularly (often major wholesalers)
  • High-end numerical ability, for calculating feeding regimes and for invoicing purposes
  • An aptitude for practical work and problem solving
  • Advance knowledge of fish farming is required
