How to identify the particular disease affecting your Ruminant Animals

There are some signs and symptoms which we described during our previous post on Diseases Ruminant Animals get from feeds and water and Signs to know when the Animals are Sick is not limited to only a particular disease.

Many diseases do show similar signs that it will take an expert to be able to differentiate between them. There are times when laboratory tests will be required before the disease can be confirmed. So, to be sure of the exact disease affecting your ruminant animals, I will strongly advice that immediately you notice any signs or symptoms of ill-health, to call upon your consultant (a Vet. Doctor) who will assist you with the accurate diagnosis as well as the recommendation of the necessary treatment regime

As a ruminant farmer, you also need to be aware that most of the diseases will respond to treatment with drugs if the diseases are properly diagnosed and appropriate drugs are used. However, most of the diseases that will respond to treatment are either caused by bacteria, fungi, nutritional deficiencies etc.

Diseases that are caused by viruses are not usually treatable because viral diseases do not respond to drugs; such diseases are better prevented from attacking the animals rather than thinking of treating them.
