First, is the purpose for which the animals are to be raised. For example: is it raised for meat or for milk production?

Secondly, is the farmer’s interest or likeness, example: which breed exactly is the farmer interested in raising.

Third is the initial capital because purchasing and managing exotic breeds of ruminants could be costlier than those of the local breeds.

Also the area/place where the animals will be raised will also be considered before deciding on which breed to raise. For instance some breeds will survive better in the Northen Parts while raising them in the Southern Parts could be much more demanding. So in deciding which breed to raise, an expert should be carried along for proper guidance.
